description. As an introduction to the course of BA(hons) Architecture, our first project was to collaborate in a group of three to create a portable temporary shelter that could be erected on soft, level ground within the University campus. The shelter had to be designed to be able to accomodate all three members of our group sleeping over night, and could only be built out of a finite amount of materials, specified in the brief; namely: 3 square meters of polythene sheeting per student, 4 bamboo poles per student, 3 polythene tubes per student, 1 cardboard sheet per student, no set limit for string and waterproof tape, paint for cardboard at the groups expense and with permission from the tutor, and a limited of recycled materials (i.e., bottles, cans, plastic shopping bags, found natural materials etc.) which has to be approved of by the design tutor at the beginning of the design process.
